APRICOT TREES

If you are looking for sweet tasting, juicy apricots then the Moorpark Apricot tree might just be for you. They are self-fertile and fast growing but will produce a larger crop when planted with another variety. The fruit is juicy and excellent for drying, canning and fresh eating. In the Spring they will have whitish pink blooms which makes it a great choice as an attractive landscape tree. The fruit ripens over an extended period of time from early July to early August.

The Moorpark Apricot is a fast grower often growing up to two feet per year. They will will grow in USDA Hardiness Zone 4-8 and reach a height of 15-20’ and get 15-20 feet wide when mature.

This tree grows at a fast rate, with yearly height increases of up to 24".
They thrive in full sun with at least six hours of direct sunlight.
They prefer acidic, loamy, moist, rich, sandy, silty loam and well-drained soil. It does not tolerate drought well.

They grow round and produce large, smooth, freestone apricots with fuzzless, deep yellow skin and deep orange flesh.

This is an old heirloom variety that originally came from China and was introduced to England in 1688 by an English Admiral who planted them on his estate called Moor Park and hence the name. They eventually made their way to America and have become a favorite to many.
