Very unusual dark sunburst finish on this old workhorse from 1942. Solid birch construction, original bridge, tailpiece, tuners and pickguard.

Made by Harmony this is a model # H974. Painted binding and fret markers show a little wear. Wonderful patina on the finish.
Nice punchy tone, plays well all the way up the neck, action is a little high for some folks, but that’s the way these old archtops were meant to be played.
This guitar was in pretty sad shape when it came to us. Work included cleating and repairing cracks at f-holes, neck reset, reglueing loose braces, fret level and dress, and setup.
The old gal does have a few scars and marks from years worth of use, the refinish at the repaired cracks is not perfect but you really have to look to see it. The fret board does tend to”fall off” at the body joint, but action up the neck is good and easily playable.
A very nice example of a pre-war working man’s archtop guitar
